Play on Words: Blog →
Whenever I have free time, I always scour the web for great SLP resources. Here’s another amazing blog that I came across! I know it’s a good one when I end up with a dozen tabs open after looking through just a few pages of the blog, lol. Have fun!

Love this!!

Dr. Seuss on IEPs
I do not like these IEPs
I do not like them, Jeeze Louise!
We test, we check,
We plan, we meet,
But nothing ever seems complete.
Would you, could you like the form?
I do not like the form I see,
Not page 1, not 2, not 3
Another change,

So sorry for the lack of posts!! I’ve been super busy with my new position & I’ve been meaning to write a post about my experience thus far, but I haven’t found the time!

This was done a while ago, but it’s still a good quick read. For those who are familiar with Reddit, a SLP did an AMA (Ask Me Anything).

Out My Mind, Just In Time

When I observe or give speech therapy, I’m reminded that in an instance your life can change. Dealing with people who can’t communicate basic needs, reminds me of how blessed I am. I am also blessed to be going into a field where I can help someone do what most of us take for granted, the ability to say and simply respond to our name…
New Schedule is Here! -- Finally!
So after “patiently” waiting, I finally got my schedule for work! Phew.
The good news — I’m starting right after the district board meeting on 2/9. I’m shadowing one SLP on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday and another SLP at another school on Thursday. I also have the option of working as a Substitute on Fridays, if needed.
The good/bad news — My position is...

Overwhelmed
During my last class, my professor (also the program director) advised that I start researching and applying to online SLP grad school programs beginning this summer with NOVA. In order to continue with my current position at the school district, I would need to go to school online.
I’ve spent the past two days looking into the different programs & comparing them.. and needless to...

Keep On Keepin' On
I am officially getting all of my paperwork together to start my new job as a Speech Language Specialist shadow and (hopefully!) eventually their district SLS.
This is definitely a much longer process than I anticipated. I’m so excited about this opportunity (so excited, in fact, that the Director of Personnel has repeatedly told me that she’s happy about my...

An amazing post written by another inspiration I’ve tumbl’d upon.
lindsaygrace:
The one thing that practicum or “externship” as I guess a lot of people call it does not realistically portray is the real length of treatment periods. Everything seems oh-so-easy when you work with a kid for three months, write a final eval and then hand him off to the next clinician in line....
Paperwork, Paperwork, & more Paperwork!
I’m drowning in all the paperwork involved with this new job and volunteering position. Good thing I’m taking care of everything during my last two weeks at my soon-to-be old office job. I’ve got unlimited access to printers, manila envelopes, and any office supplies necessary for staying organized, lol.
My goal is to have everything ready to go by January 17, 2012. There are...

Cute article written by a SLP’s sister :)
Happy New Year!
First post of 2012. I’m excited about this year and I just know (being optimistic!) that there are amazing things yet to come.
As if I don’t have enough on my plate (working almost full time during the week + class all day Saturday), I decided to throw volunteering into the mix. I was especially inspired by slp101’s post about how the “more diverse experience you have...

Speech-Path-Ways: Dear Undergrads, →
Great words of wisdom! Definitely worth reading if it applies to you.
speech-path-way:
A little advice on the application process….
1. Graduate school is competitive, especially in the North East/East Coast area. If your GPA is not so stellar, don’t look in that area for a graduate school. Look for schools that will fit you. You want to get a good education. Don’t look at the Top…

Why I Love Speech & Language Pathology
Reason #1: The support from the community is so amazing!
For example, I’m part of two future SLP groups on Facebook, Future SLPs and IMAGAS (Insight, Mentoring, and Guidance for Aspiring SLPs), and I can’t believe how helpful it’s been. I’m currently in enrolled in a post-bacc program in CSD (Communication Sciences & Disorders) and I applied for a SLS (Speech...

Follow Your Bliss
I’ve kept those three words close to my heart the past few years, when the future felt unclear. I was in my third year of college and I found out that I could no longer be determined a “pre-nursing” major since I had completed too many units to be a “pre-” anything and had to choose something. I had interned at a local hospital and realized that I didn’t want...
