follow your bliss

Happy New Year!

First post of 2012.  I’m excited about this year and I just know (being optimistic!) that there are amazing things yet to come.  

As if I don’t have enough on my plate (working almost full time during the week + class all day Saturday), I decided to throw volunteering into the mix.  I was especially inspired by slp101’s post about how the “more diverse experience you have - and the most diverse education - the better.”  I’ve been lucky to have extensive experience working with kids & kids with disabilities, which is what I feel gave me that extra edge when applying for the school district position.  But I have zero experience with the geriatric population and the clinical/hospital setting.  So, I decided to start a volunteering position with a local hospital in their Rehab Service Department, which provides services to the elderly.  I’m so excited to add another experience under my belt although I’ll be even more busy.  I contacted the Volunteer Services director and I start my paperwork on Tuesday!
