I am officially getting all of my paperwork together to start my new job as a Speech Language Specialist shadow and (hopefully!) eventually their district SLS.
This is definitely a much longer process than I anticipated. I’m so excited about this opportunity (so excited, in fact, that the Director of Personnel has repeatedly told me that she’s happy about my “enthusiasm” and “ability to continually follow through”), but it is definitely one that requires patience. Before even being able to collect the paperwork for this position, I had to first get my 30-day Substitute Permit from the state. That required taking the CBEST, getting my fingerprints & TB test done, and submitting all of the paperwork to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing up in Sacramento. HR told me that it takes a month on average for your application to be processed, so I was definitely getting antsy. But I was super lucky and my permit ended up getting processed and approved in about 3 days. Now that I have the permit, I still have to wait on the Board of Trustees to meet and approve of my hiring, which will happen next week. All in all, they told me that I would most likely start the beginning of February. I got my job offer before Christmas and I won’t be starting until February :(. I know that I’m incredibly lucky to be given an opportunity like this, but I can’t help but get a little impatient.
But I know that once it starts, it’ll be an amazing experience. I just gotta get through it and keep on keeping on.
