So after “patiently” waiting, I finally got my schedule for work! Phew.
The good news — I’m starting right after the district board meeting on 2/9. I’m shadowing one SLP on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday and another SLP at another school on Thursday. I also have the option of working as a Substitute on Fridays, if needed.
The good/bad news — My position is good from 2/9 to 3/8. Which means that I only have ONE month to prove myself, as opposed to the three months I originally thought. It’s good because that means I’m that much closer to working as an actual SLP on a credential waiver, but bad because I have way less time than I thought to prove that I’m capable of taking on my own load.
The bad news — Since I’m working for just one month on this schedule and then it’s tentative after, I decided that I shouldn’t take on volunteering at my local hospital because I wouldn’t be able to truly commit myself. I may have a FT load after one month, so I don’t want to start and then have to stop soon after.
So here I go. Any advice on how to stand out would be GREATLY appreciated. I’m planning on being very proactive and eager to learn as much as I can, but any tips on how to prove myself would be amazing. Thanks!
